About them: Founded in 2006, Whistlefritz was borne out of a mom’s passion to teach her own children Spanish. After reading research showing that early childhood was the best time to learn a language, Whistlefritz’s founding mom set out on a mission to find fun and educational teaching materials for her children. She searched for videos with engaging storylines, featuring live speakers rather than cartoons, and teaching through immersion. Not finding what she wanted, she decided to create it: engaging, playful, live-action Spanish immersion programs for her own kids and kids everywhere!
I am always looking for new ways to teach my kids things that will help them in their daily lives and in school. I love knowing that things I teach them help them succeed later on in each of their lives. Language skills are something that I think all kids should know. We live in such a diverse area where different languages are spoken and I want my kids to be able to communicate and understand people from all backgrounds. I was super excited to try Whistlefritz. I received The Ultimate Spanish Collection for kids. It is for ages 1 through 7 and includes 5 DVDs and 3 CDs total in the collection. The DVDs include Los Animales (Animals), Vamos a Jugar (Let’s Play), Adentro y Afuera (Inside and Out), Las Estaciones (The Seasons) and La Fiesta de Fritzi (Fritzi’s Party). The CDs include A Bailar! Let’s Dance!, Cha, Cha, Cha Spanish Learning Songs and Sabor! Now I have tried teaching my girls basic Spanish words and they have learned several by watching shows like Dora the Explorer, but this collection has topped all the other ways I have tried teaching them! I have three kids ages 1, 4 and 6 and they all three love this collection. It is a great mix of animation and live action and my kids go crazy for it! It has both English and Spanish subtitles too. These DVDs are educational and extremely entertaining for me and my kids. I have learned a lot from them too! They are filled with rhymes that my kids really respond to and this program gets them up and moving. They love to sing and dance to it and it is just a great program for introducing your children to a foreign language. Not only does it come with the DVDs and CDs but it also comes with a parent and teacher translation guide which helps you to learn along too. This has been a perfect activity so far this summer and I am excited that my kids will have a bit of a background in Spanish when they go back to school this fall. My 4 year old has a friend in her preschool class that can’t speak any English. This year she helped her friend around class but couldn’t understand her. Now when they go back to school in the fall she will be able to better communicate with her and she is so excited about it! I look forward to ordering more of the Whistlefritz Collections so my girls can learn even more! They are a great way to introduce your children to a new language and I highly recommend them!
