Showing Roots

About them: In 1977, as the miniseries “Roots” hits the airwaves, two women are inspired to try and integrate their small Southern town. In a place where there are still “right” and “wrong” sides of the tracks, these two young women — one white, one black — forge an unlikely friendship that sparks a journey of independence and self-discovery, and ultimately results in the creation of the perfect hairdo. Stars Maggie Grace, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth McGovern, Adam Brody, Cicely Tyson.

I had the pleasure of receiving a DVD copy of Showing Roots to watch and review. It has a feature run time of 100 minutes and takes place in 1977. This is the era before African American and Caucasians were considered equal and still had specific boundaries between them. Two people defy the odds and become really good friends. One is white and one is black and neither care what people think of their friendship. Not only are they friends but they become business partners and eventually create the perfect hairdo for both blacks and whites. This brings the community together moreso and makes their friendship even stronger as they discover what is important in life. This is an awesome movie about two people defying the odds of their time. It is a heartwarming tale and truly inspirational to all those who watch. Maggie Grace from Taken and Uzo Aduba “Crazy Eyes” from Orange is the New Black really bring these characters and story to life! The special feature goes behind the scenes of Showing Roots. I found it extremely interesting. Showing Roots comes out on DVD everywhere on June 20th and I highly recommend it! Preorder your copy today!
