3 Generations

About them: 3 Generations tells the stirring and touching story of three generations of a family living under one roof in New York as they deal with the life-changing transformation by one that ultimately affects them all. Ray is a teenager who has struggled with the body assigned to him at birth and is determined to start transitioning. His single mother, Maggie, must track down Ray’s biological father to get his legal consent to allow Ray’s transition.

I had been wanting to see 3 Generations since I first heard about it so I was extremely excited to received a Blu-Ray and Digital HD copy for review. It has a feature running time of 92 minutes and includes Deleted and Extended Scenes in the special features. Ray is a young teenager that has spent his whole life feeling trapped in a body that did not belong to him. He decides to proceed with the gender reassignment surgery but can’t without the consent of his biological father. His mom has been a single mom since Ray was little so she seeks his father out to get his legal consent. His father, whom has never been in Ray’s life refuses to sign the papers so it is up to his mom to get through to his father to get the paper’s signed so Ray can start the gender transitioning. They must all come together and embrace these changes so Ray can finally feel comfortable in his own body. Even his lesbian grandma Dolly is having a hard time with this transition but they all must come together to support Ray. This is a great movie and I absolutely loved it. I have a couple transgender friends so am extremely familiar with the hardships that not only they go through during the transition, but also that their families go through hardships as well so this really hit home for me. It captures the struggles with being in the wrong body from birth and the challenges during the transition to the right body. 3 Generations is a heartwarming and inspirational movie and a must watch! You can preorder your copy now or buy it when it comes out on Blu-ray (plus Digital HD), DVD, and Digital HD June 13.
