The idea to commercially manufacture pasta sauce took root when Fred noticed restaurant customers offering to pay extra to take home a small portion of the sauce. Fred immediately saw the potential to market and sell their quality Italian sauces, and in 1946 he sold DelGrosso’s Cafe and bought nearby Bland’s Amusement Park. From the park kitchen, Fred and Murf worked 10-hour days to make one “batch” of five cases, using four 10-gallon pots and a hand sealer, which took 24 revolutions to seal one can. Fred and two long-time friends from Altoona formed a small sales force and gradually increased distribution by “pounding the pavement.” Find them on Facebook!
Ultra Premium Sauces: La Famiglia DelGrosso is our award-winning line of specialty gourmet sauces, made with imported whole peeled Italian plum tomatoes and the finest, freshest ingredients on earth. Each recipe is an extraordinary culinary indulgence created by a different member of the DelGrosso family, and represents the very best of what we bring to the table for our special occasions. Uncle Bo’s Roasted Red Pepper Tour: As a former professional golfer, our Uncle Bo knows something about taking things slow. After wowing spectators on the course with his steady hand, Bo would show us a different type of play in the kitchen. “Making sauce is like sinking a twenty-foot putt—it’s about precision and patience,” he says. Using slow roasted red peppers with fresh garlic and spices, Bo’s precise formulation will have you cheering from the gallery, or at least your dining room seats. Uncle Fred’s Fireworks Sauce: Every 4th of July, crowds gather for a premier fireworks show at DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton, Pennsylvania. Back in the park kitchen, family members line up for a taste of our Uncle Fred’s Fireworks Sauce. Fred explains, “I use the freshest zucchini, garlic and onions from my garden with just the right amount of spices to make this tangy, tasty favorite.” But be warned, if he catches you standing around the kitchen he’ll probably put you to work.
The 2 sauces are off the hook. We used the Firework one in home made pizza, and in pasta dish. Kinda spicy and very Delicious. Its got some chunks in it, small ones and its very good for dipping too! Like for cheese sticks or chips. We got like 5 uses out of the jars on the size. The Pepper one was just as good to! It was very good in lasagna and dipping too! These have a funny name, but don’t let that fool you, with the how awesome it tastes. These are by far the best sauces I have tried out there. I love the names they choose to that’s so unique and very cool. They both will make alot of food. Its also great for a party to. I don’t think I have seen this product in stores. I have seen the others but not these ones. I cant get over how good the Firework one is. They work great in any red pasta food!
