The Purple Grumblies

About them: The Purple Grumblies are not swashbuckling heroes. They can’t run. They’re all thumbs when it comes to lifting or climbing anything. They’re just plain awkward, small, grumpy, and… purple! And yet… these underdogs manage to outwit their adversaries time and time again. How do they do it? The author wanted to create anti-heroes with a conscience; to show how brain overcomes brawn and how little Davids can defeat any number of giant Goliaths. Good must always triumph over evil.

My kids and I had the pleasure of receiving a few books from The Purple Grumblies Series for review. The Purple Grumblies series that we received includes Percy The Dreaded Sea-Monster, The Grumblies Set A Trap and The Grumblies & The Volcano. These are books one through three and we really enjoyed them! They were written by Mike Marsh and Illustrated by Priti Jain. Percy The Dreaded Sea-Monster is about the Purple Grumblies being stalked by Percy The Dreaded Sea-Monster. He thinks they look tasty and he wants to eat them so they must cross the sea to get to safety. The Grumbles Set A Trap is about Percy The Dreaded Sea-Monster coming back for revenge on the Purple Grumblies. He comes back to Volcano island to eat the Grumblies and ends up falling into their trap. They think he is dead and they are going to eat him but little do they know, Percy is alive and well. The Grumbles & The Volcano is about Bumboo, an Efelant, coming onto the Grumblies island. She is famished and asks to eat with them and they tell her they are going to eat Percy. Meanwhile Percy has freed himself from the sand trap. Percy goes to the top of the volcano because he falls in love with Bumboo and wants the Grumblies to tell him where she is. When he gets to the top she pushes him into the volcano. Percy is trapped once again but thrilled that the one he loves touched him. My kids and I really enjoyed these books and can not wait to collect the rest of this series. It is a great collection for kids and I highly recommend it if you are looking for a series that spans over several books. My kids love the story and illustrations and I am sure yours will too!

Disclosure: I received these products for free, in exchange for my honest review, which may differ from yours. Regardless, I only recommend products and services I used personally, and believe will be a good fit for consumers.
