Lady Bird

About them: In Lady Bird, which marks Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut, Gerwig reveals herself to be a bold new cinematic voice, excavating both the humor and pathos in the turbulent bond between a mother and her teenage daughter. Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson fights against, but is exactly like, her wildly loving, deeply opinionated and strong-willed mom, a nurse working tirelessly to keep her family afloat after Lady Bird’s father loses his job. Set in Sacramento, California, in 2002, amidst a rapidly shifting American economic landscape, Lady Bird is an affecting look at the relationships that shape us, the beliefs that define us, and the unmatched beauty of a place called home.

I had been wanting to see Lady Bird since the moment I had heard about it so was pretty stoked when I received a Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital copy of it to watch and review. It has a feature run time of 93 minutes and is R rated. It is an inspiring movie about a girl named Christine who goes by the name Lady Bird. She is a true rebel and goes against the grain on pretty much everything that is expected of her whether it be at home or at school. She and her mom have a hard relationship because they are so alike and each so opinionated and strong-willed. Because of this they but heads a lot. Even through all the stress of her father losing his job, the craziness of her mom having to keep their family afloat on her own and dealing with the differences of opinions between her and her mom, they still have a bond which is astounding to see in this film. Each of these relationships help shape and define them. It is an inspiring movie and I am so happy I was fortunate enough to add it to our movie collection. This film brought back a lot of memories from my childhood. My mother and I had an estranged relationship for my entire upbringing. Nothing I wanted to do or did was ever good enough and at the time I didn’t know why but I see now that it shaped me into the strong, independent woman I am today. Our relationship is great now but we both had such huge personalities that it wasn’t growing up. This is a great movie and I highly recommend it! It came out everywhere yesterday so get your copy today!
