[Review] Can’t Stop the beat Book

weiss’ art “throws a party for the senses,” Preston Whaley Jr. writes in Blows Like a Horn: Beat Writing, Jazz, Style and Markets in the Transformation of U.S. Culture. “More than most of the Beat writers, weiss’ art marks the collision of white biography on the fringe with African American culture,” he states. This living national treasure continues to perform, jamming with jazz and rock artists and shaking our world with such words as these that close CAN’T STOP THE BEAT: “a child is the center of the connection of all out to in— the big woman … the orange seller … they sell sea-shells on … today today … the click of the game … within the ear of the world … listen to the conch … from school … when we are older we shall be free — In CAN’T STOP THE BEAT, weiss presents for the first time in print two masterpiece long form poems: COMPASS (about a road trip through Mexico) and I ALWAYS THOUGHT YOU BLACK (a tribute to her African American artist friends). Also included are two short form poems TEN TEN and POST-CARD 1995; and a biography of ruth weiss’ life by Horst Spandler, ruth weiss and the American Beat Movement of the ’50s and ’60s..

Can’t Stop the Beat

I got this book from the tomoson site, once again they sure have odd things you can request which is nice from the normal stuff. This book I gave to my husband he is into jazz stuff, poetry as he his a guitar player and the singer in his band. He loved alot of the stuff in this book. He said its alot like the songs he plays, dark and very unique, his music is awesome but not like most stuff people play. He has almost finished this book. This is a really good book if you love jazz. So try it out!
