Rebel Yell for your Summer BBQs

About them: Rebel Yell is a wheated bourbon that evokes a free spirit, reminding us that in this life we forge our own paths, and we accept nothing less than absolute freedom. To seize your destiny – that’s true freedom. That’s the unforgettable taste of Rebel Yell.

I had the pleasure of trying out a 750ml bottle of Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey to review and to include in our 4th of July and BBQ Gift Guides. They have been using the same original recipe since 1849 so they have had plenty of time to perfect it! Whiskey is my drink of choice when drinking hard liquor and this one is absolutely delicious. It is good by itself and extremely good using it for mixed drinks. I love mixed drinks and when I tried the Rebel Yell Boozy Bourbon Shake I was super pleased with it! It is a perfect drink to have after the kids go to bed and even better for your family BBQ this 4th of July. This drink is creamy and delicious! It went so good with a nice bbq meal. It has icecream, bacon and more in it and I honestly could not get enough of it. It is a perfect drink for family get togethers, for bbqs and so much more and I highly recommend trying it! I have included the recipe for your enjoyment so give it a try! Rebel Yell is great in this drink and so many more! I am so thankful Chefs Mike Johnson and Christina Fitzgerald, co-owners of the award-winning Sugarfire Smokehouse in St. Louis created the boozy shake! Now your BBQ wouldn’t be complete without a good feast of Bourbon Short Ribs! My dad made these for our family BBQ for my sisters birthday this weekend and they were so yummy! They were gone in a flash and were so liked they will be the main meat for our 4th of July party this year too! You can try them for yourself with the included recipe below! These are all great recipe for your BBQs, gatherings and more and I highly recommend them!

Ingredients:

1 1/2 c beef stock

1/2 c balsamic vinegar

1/4 c Rebel Yell bourbon

1/3 c Worcestershire

1/2 c brown sugar

1/8 c pickled jalapeño juice

1/3 c light corn syrup

1 c peach purée

1 1/2 c ketchup

1/4 c tomato paste

5 lb bone-in beef short ribs, cut crosswise in to 2′ pieces

3T vegetable oil

3 medium onions, medium diced

3 medium carrots, chopped

2 celery stalks, chopped

2 bay leaves

1 head of garlic, halved crosswise

Kosher salt and ground black pepper

Method:

Preheat oven to 275F

Combine stock, vinegar, bourbon, Worcestershire, brown sugar, jalapeño juice, corn syrup, peach puree, ketchup and tomato paste in a medium stock pot on low heat.  Season ribs well on all sides. Lightly dust each short rib with flour, knocking off any access. Heat a large pan on high. Add vegetable oil to pan and sear ribs for 6 minutes on all sides. Remove ribs and place in a roasting dish. Using the same pan on medium high heat, sauté vegetables until softened. Add vegetables, bay leaves, garlic and enough of the sauce to cover 2/3 of the ribs. Wrap ribs tightly with aluminum foil and place on a center rack in the oven. Continue to reduce remaining sauce until desired thickness, stirring occasionally. Roast ribs covered for 3 hours. Allow to rest and serve with the sauce recipe below.

Tucky Sage Sauce

2 oz Rebel Yell Kentucky straight  bourbon, ½ oz sage simple syrup, 1 oz lime juice, 1 oz ginger beer. Garnish with fresh sage.

For sage simple boil sugar water and sage leaves. Let simmer on low for 30 minutes. Let cool then strain. Has a shelf life of two weeks. Can also use honey instead of sage.
