About the Author: Brian Harold grew up in a small town in Wisconsin and participated in a number of sports, including football, softball, wrestling, and waterskiing. He also coached and refereed wrestling and taught several acting class at Plano Children’s Theatre. Participating in these sports and working with kids taught him life lessons that he thought would be beneficial to pass along to children today. Brian currently resides in the Dallas, Texas, area.
My older two kiddos have gotten really into reading over the last year and we are constantly looking for good children’s books to add to their growing library. When we had the opportunity to review Ralph The Magical Elf: Not a Christmas Story and include it in our Holiday Gift Guide my kids were extremely excited. As soon as it came in the mail they asked me to read it to them. The story begins with a young boy named Joe who is having a bad day and rotten luck while playing baseball. After striking out twice he decides to give up and takes off. Once he gives up an elf named Ralph shows up. He tries to convince Joe not to give up on the game or himself but Joe just wants Ralph to leave. Ralph has a mission to accomplish and won’t go until he achieves it so Joe tries to run off. Ralph is a magical elf and Joe can not escape him. Finally Ralph talks Joe into giving baseball another shot and he ends up hitting home run! Ralph teaches Joe and kids in general not to give up when they fail but to get up and try again until they succeed. My girls really enjoyed this book. The story was well written and teaches an important lesson and my kids loved the illustrations. Ralph The Magical Elf: Not a Christmas Story is a great children’s book that all three of my kids enjoyed. It would make a perfect gift for your young reader this holiday season!
