Pink is for Boys

About the Author: Robb Pearlman is the author of many books, including Groundhog’s Day Off, Raggedy Ann and Andy: Leaf Dance, and Passover is Here!. Today, his favorite color is blue, but it may purple tomorrow! He grew up in New York City and now lives in a white and green house in New Jersey with his husband and Oscar, the butterscotch-colored best puppy in the world.

My kids and I love to spend time reading with and to each other. We are always looking to expand our library of kids books so when I hear about Pink is for Boys I knew we had to have it! It is written by Robb Pearlman and illustrated by Eda Kaban. This book is great for younger readers between ages 4 and 8 which was perfect for us since my kids are 2, 5 and 7 years old. The author uses a diverse group of characters to show kids that colors are not gender dictated, but instead for everyone of all different races, ages and genders. All of the colors from the rainbow spectrum are used in a fun and creative way that my kids just love! My 7 year old loves to read this to her younger brother and sister and has read it countless times already. My younger two love how colorful the book is and it gets more colorful with each turn of the page. The illustrations are just beautiful and the message is inspiring and beautiful as well. I love that this book teaches kids that there are not roles specifically for boys or girls and that colors are not gender specific either. Before we read this book my girls would play and make comments about how blue is for boys and pink is for girls and such. Now they look at it a whole new way and it has really been quite amazing to see how they have grown from this book. It is a great children’s book and a perfect addition to any children’s library. My daughter has taken it to her preschool class and her teacher has read it a few times and it has become one of the classroom favorites. Her teacher can not wait until it is released. Pink is for Boys is scheduled to be released on June 5th of this year and I highly recommend it!
