I had the pleasure of receiving a couple PBS movies to include in our Holiday Gift Guide this year. The first of these titles was Anne of Green Gables: The Good Stars. It has a feature run time of 90 minutes and if you like comedies then this is a great movie for you. Anne Shirley is a young thirteen year old girl who has several unfortunate yet amusing mishaps. She lives in Avonlea and becomes good friends with a girl named Diana Berry and that friendship goes through a shift when Anne starts hanging out more with a guy named Gilburt. Anne is then intrusted with a secret and ends up getting confused and blowing it, causing her to be torn with who she is and who she wants to be. It is a great movie and shows how crazy life can really be. Swim Team is an awesome movie about parents who take a stand against kids with differences not being included. It has a feature run time of 100 minutes and takes place when the parents of an autistic boy form a competitive swim team for him and other teens on the spectrum. They train them like they would a teen who was not on the autistic spectrum and don’t show pity or anything. They teach the kids that they can rise above expectations and take their lives where they want to take them. It is a great movie about inclusion, independence and winning in life. This is a very empowering film. Both of these movies would make great gifts for your loved ones this holiday season and I definitely am glad to have them in my movie collection!
