The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child

About them: This enchanting tale tells the story of a mouse who walks through the woods in search of a nut. Along the way, he encounters a hungry fox, owl, and snake who all think the mouse looks good to eat! Forced to rely on his wits for survival, Mouse invents an imaginary monster with frightening features to scare them away, but what happens when he comes face-to-face with his own creation? One snowy night, the Gruffalo’s Child ignores her father’s warning and bravely tiptoes out of their cave into the deep dark wood in search of the Big Bad Mouse. On her journey, she meets Snake, Owl, and Fox but no sign of the fabled Mouse. He doesn’t really exist…or does he?

My kids and I received DVD copies of The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child for review. These movies are both based of the children’s picture books written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler that are a couple of my kids favorite books. They were absolutely thrilled to received these movies. The Gruffalo is 30 minutes long and is about a mouse that walks through the woods in a search for a nut. During his walk he runs into many predators that want to make a meal out of the mouse. Relying on his wits, the mouse creates an imaginary monster to scare them away. He thinks he is pretty clever until he runs into his very own creation in real life. It has a behind the scenes documentary special feature as well. The Gruffalo’s Child is also 30 minutes long and takes place on the other end. The Gruffalo’s child sets off in search of the fabled big bad mouse. She runs into all the creatures that the mouse had in the past on her journey to discover whether the mouse is real or not. This has a couple special features that include a behind the scenes documentary and an artwork gallery. These are both narrated by Helena Bonham Carter. My kids have watched these movies nonstop since we got them. They really bring the books to life! These were both re-released on January 10th and I highly recommend them for your kids!
