Freaky Friday

About them: A contemporary musical update of the classic comedic story, “Freaky Friday” is based on Disney Theatrical Productions’ stage adaptation of the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers. Teenager Ellie Blake and her mom Katherine are complete opposites and often clashing with one another. Ellie really misses her dad who passed away a few years ago; she bickers with her younger brother and argues with Katherine who’s getting ready to marry her fiancé, Mike – tomorrow.  As mother and daughter quarrel, they accidentally break the treasured hourglass given to Ellie by her father and then, suddenly, they magically switch bodies. Ellie and Katherine trade places for one crazy day!

I absolutely loved the novel Freaky Friday and really enjoyed the older movies that came out too so I was pretty excited when I found out this new musical version by Disney was coming out! I knew I had to have it. For one I loved the classic version and book but I also love Disney and musicals so I knew it had to be a good one! When I received a DVD copy of Freaky Friday I was super stoked! My kids were too since they kept seeing previews for it on the Disney channel. Freaky Friday has a feature running time of 90 minutes and is G rated. Ellie is a teen who is really missing her dad that passed away 5 years ago. Her mom is busy planning her wedding to her fiance Mike and her younger brother is just a pest. She and her mom both face conflicts and neither feel understood or appreciated by the other. When they are arguing with each other they accidentally break an hourglass that had been given to Ellie by her father before he passed. They immediately are transformed into each other and have to live in each other’s shoes for a day! Ellie must deal with wedding planning, interviews and being an adult and her mom must go to school and try to fit in all over again. They both learn a lot about one another and in the end must realize what is most important in life before they can switch back to their own bodies again. It is a great movie and my kids loved it about as much if not more than me. They loved all the catchy songs and the whole concept behind it! It is a great remake of the movie and I really enjoyed it. Freaky Friday is a great family film that will be a great addition to any family movie collection. It comes out on September 25th so pre-order your copy today!
