About them: In 1996, Montana-native Spencer Williams, purchased a small pet toy company in Livingston, Montana by the name of West Paw. Growing up on a ranch in eastern Montana, animals had a special place in his heart – especially stray dogs and cats. So, with five full-time employees, and an impressive team of home-sewers, the team set out to make the world’s safest and highest quality dog toys. Instead of outsourcing manufacturing to Asia, which was the current trend in the 90’s, Spencer decided to invest in local talent and built a state-of-the-art, eco-friendly manufacturing facility in Bozeman, Montana (where we still operate from today).
Our pup Java is pretty much a part of our family so it’s always a big deal for everyone when she gets a new toy. She usually takes off with it for a bit and then eventually brings it to one of us to play with her. Depending on the toys it’s either tug-of-war or fetch. Heck sometimes it’s both. I will be honest when her new Fergus plush toy arrived from West Paw my expectations were very low. Java is two years old and she still likes to chew on her toys. And if they have a squeaker inside (like this one does) she likes to tear them out. However, I will have to say this time for the most part I was wrong. She did tear of one of the orange corners after her first chewing session. But since then it has held up like a champ and she has chewed on it quite a bit since then. And it’s been tugged on, and tossed down the stairs for her to chase after numerous times. Upon reading on the website I did find this was supposed to be for small dogs and I will point out Java is around 50lbs. So for a small do I’m sure there wouldn’t be any issue of chewing off a nub. 🙂
Java also received a really nice Montana Nap mat. I requested it in a specific size to just fit her kennel. Her last mat was on it’s last leg and we really like for Java to have a comfy place to sleep at night. The Montana Nap fits perfectly in the bottom of her kennel and allows her to have that comfort while she sleep. It’s not super fluffy so she’s not tempted to dig into it like the pillowy type beds. So far she’s been sleeping on it for a few weeks and besides the puppy hair it looks like new! The people over at West Paw sure know how to build their toys and beds that’s for sure.
